Biography

Oh My God…ard! These are usually the first words out of peoples’ mouths when they view Michael Godard’s artwork.

Michael, known as the “Rock Star of the Art World” is currently the #1 best selling artist in the U.S. He attended the University of Nevada in Las Vegas for Fine Arts and later attended The Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. Michael has been featured on Television in HBO’s Cat House, A&E’s Criss Angel’s Mind Freak, American Casino, Inked, and a myriad of other media. A documentary on Godard’s life featured at independent film festivals winning numerous awards. His Book, “Don’t Drink and Draw”, the art and life of Michael Godard, was awarded Art Book of the Year.

Michael’s work is highly collected by movie stars, rock stars, private collectors, from young to old from all walks of life. Michael’s imaginative world of art is seen by millions of people each month world wide such as cruise lines, galleries, hotels, television, magazines and countless merchandising kiosks and stores. His paintings even adorn the walls of the officer’s lounge in the Pentagon.

Michael’s world of art invites us in to his lighthearted perspective of life that surrounds us, mirroring our lives through martinis with animated olives, drunken grapes, dancing strawberries, including his own vices of gambling and the good life. Michael’s unique portrayal of fun is an exciting combination of imagination and often subtle humor which evoke and engage the creative side in “Olive” us. Paintings depicting drunken grapes, gangster olives, dancing strawberries, and flaming dice have taken the conservative art world and turned it on its heel redefining art as we know it with a new definition and of course a punch line.

Michael discovered his talent for art at an early age. The young artist used his drawing skills as a way to make new friends. Michael spent most of his high school and college years living in Las Vegas. After attending college in Las Vegas, Michael worked as a mechanical engineer for 12 years before diving into his art career. In 2006, Michael lost his 16-year-old daughter to brain cancer. The artist now dedicates his life’s work to helping families fighting cancer by working closely with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “They were also very instrumental in my own daughter’s battle with brain cancer, so they have a very special place in my heart,” Michael says. “All the money in the world cannot bring her back, but the funds I help raise for a cure will help save another child.” Michael Godard’s spectrum of artwork ranges from highly-detailed paintings to loose, colorful Pop Art.

His playful subjects are often portrayed dancing around a cocktail or glass of wine, falling in love, and getting into trouble. Michael acknowledges his brand might not appeal to everyone, but believes humor is a universal language. Michael invented his signature olive character after a friend requested a painting of a dirty martini for his birthday. Michael painted his friend’s request with a twist and brought a pair of olives to life. While his characters are unconventional, Michael embraces the challenge of giving personalities to inanimate objects. Today Michael Godard is considered one of the most prolific and influential artists of our time.
